Young Professional Council

 

  Are you a Young Professional looking to get involved with a local children's charity, network with movers and shakers and help bring joy to seriously ill children and their families? There are three unique ways to get involved with Starlight MidAtlantic:

1) Social: Join Starlight MidAtlantic on Facebook to learn about Happy Hours and Events where you can come out to meet fellow Young Professionals and show your support to the foundation.  Also send us your email to be added to the listserv and e-newsletter!

2) Council: Apply to join become a Board Member of the Young Professional Council.  Information is below.

3) Committee: The council's committees help with the planning of events, participate in volunteer opportunities and support the foundation.  Information coming soon.

New Starlight MidAtlantic Young Professionals Council

 

Starlight Children’s Foundation MidAtlantic launched its  Young Professionals Council in October 2008.  The Council is comprised of bright young leaders from the greater DC area.   

Our Young Professionals Council is a platform for young professionals to volunteer, network, learn more about the foundation, join junior committees, fundraise, event plan and make a difference in their community working for a great cause.    Starlight MidAtlantic Young Professionals are dedicated young men and women who want to be involved in helping local community kids who have life threatening medical conditions. Members can demonstrate their commitment in a variety of ways, some of which include, fundraising and volunteer activitys. Membership also provides access to unique social networking activities that support Starlight MidAtlantic.  

Members of the Young Professionals Council help Starlight MidAtlantic as volunteers, donors, and enthusiastic supporters of the Starlight mission. Council members are typically 25 – 35 years old, live and/or work in the greater DC area, are outgoing and fun, leaders, dedicated to the cause and someone who enjoys networking.  The Council is a great place to meet new people, give back to your community and get involved in a premier charity!   

 

The Young Professionals Council will:  
Ø Plan and execute at least one large scale Starlight MidAtlantic fundraiser per year
Ø Develop sponsorship and other support for events
Ø Demonstrate knowledge of Starlight MidAtlantic's mission and services
Ø Implement stated goals and mission on time within budget guidelines      
 
Council demonstrates support by: 
Ø Volunteering their time and talent
Ø Selling tickets to Starlight MidAtlantic Fundraising Events
Ø Attending 75% of Council meetings (bi-monthly meetings, 6 a year)
Ø Volunteer individually or as a group during at least one Great Escape per year and one Hospital Happening per year
Ø Serve terms for a year, renewable at the end of the term.  Terms will run from November 1 to October 31
Ø Developing resources & contacts to support Starlight MidAtlantic’s activities
Ø Secure items for event auctions
Ø Give it or Get it! The first year there is no requirement.  Moving forward there will be a financial requirement will be for each SMYPC member to be responsible for bringing in $2,500 per year to support our programs.  Starlight MidAtlantic and the council will work with you on ideas and strategies to accomplish this goal.
