Teen Ambassador
On July 4, 2009, Our Lady of Good Counsel student Brittany Sullivan, 16, was crowned America's Miss Teen 2009 before a large crowd at The Hilton Baltimore BWI Hotel in Linthicum, Maryland.
Only a teen herself, Brittany has been a Starlight MidAtlantic volunteer since 2007 -- supporting such programs as Great Escapes, Hospital Happenings, and the Taste of the Stars Gala.
First as Miss Teen Maryland 2008, and now in the role of America’s Miss Teen 2009, she has tailored her pageant platform around her commitment to Starlight MidAltantic and her role as the organization's Teen Ambassador. As Teen Ambassador, she encourages other local teens and community members to help others and learn what it feels like to make a difference in someone else's life. She encourages her peers to volunteer, leads fundraising initiatives, and involves Good Counsel in activities to support Starlight MidAtlantic. Brittany also does countless speaking engagements to local businesses and organizations to gain support for Starlight MidAtlantic’s programs. She is driven to make the world a better place and is dedicated to positively impacting the lives of seriously ill children.
Brittany leads by example. When most other kids her age are at the mall, she takes time out of her busy schedule to volunteer. Starlight MidAtlantic’s mission is so close to her heart that she has dedicated herself to doing as much as she possibly can to help pediatric patients. It's not unusual to see her attend multiple Starlight events in one weekend, rolling-up her sleeves as a volunteer. Her love for the Great Escapes family activity program is so great that she's even created her own signature event. The children light-up when she gets down on their level and chats with them. They love getting their pictures taken with a Teen Queen! She has also achieved a personal fundraising goal to sponsor not one but TWO Starlight Fun Center mobile entertainment units, which she donated to area hospitals. She is currently fundraising for her third Fun Center.
